There are two fire halls and trucks plus a rescue vehicle fully equipped and one ambulance.  Vancouver Island is served by 911 services for police, fire and ambulance.

Three churches serve the Sayward community:  a non-denominational church, a Mennonite Brethren and a Catholic church.  There are two gas stations, several grocery stores, and liquor outlets.  Fishing licenses and tackle are available, as are some guide services. Drug stores and medical services, including a hospital are within an hours drive.

Other services include a full assortment of beauty care services and haircuts, mechanics, parts and service for vehicles and always willing locals to help in any emergency.
